Namibia Denounces Israel’s Gaza Occupation Plan
In a statement released on Wednesday, Namibia’s Ministry of International Relations and Trade criticized the Israeli move, emphasizing that it threatens to deepen the widespread hunger, deprivation, and the looming risk of mass starvation in Gaza.
Penda Naanda, the executive director at the ministry, commended the international community's condemnation of Israel's plan, highlighting the importance of global solidarity in these challenging times.
“Guided by the principles enshrined in our constitution, Namibia continues to advocate for the peaceful resolution of international disputes and remains firmly committed to supporting initiatives that promote and protect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people,” Naanda remarked.
Drawing on Namibia's own history of overcoming illegal occupation and apartheid, Naanda expressed a deep sense of empathy for those suffering from oppression, stating: “Our nation's experience fuels our empathy and solidarity with those enduring denial of self-determination.”
Naanda urged the United Nations member states to fulfill their international duties, stressing the urgent need to prevent a catastrophic humanitarian crisis.
"The ministry reiterates Namibia's unwavering and principled position in favor of peace and dialogue, as envisioned through the relevant United Nations General Assembly and Security Council resolutions," he concluded.
